About the Author

James W. Rhodes, a retired teacher-coach, is a free-lance writer-photographer who lives in Coleraine, Minnesota.   Jim, a navy veteran of WWII, graduated from Colorado State College of Education, majored in physical education and earned varsity letters in football, boxing, baseball and track.

 

An avid outdoorsman with a love of travel, Jim has guided canoeists in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness of Minnesota, bicycled, backpacked, and traveled extensively in the United States and Europe. One tour of Europe included a traverse of the famous Matterhorn mountain peak in Switzerland.  During a tour of Europe by tandem bicycle, Jim met and married Irene, a lovely Scottish lassie of Glasgow, Scotland.  Jim has five grown children and four grandchildren.

Jim’s ambition is to retire to his seven acre island with its cordwood castle and engage in writing, photography, and outdoor activities. His philosophy: God gave us talents to use.

Jim is also the author of The Ballad of Dorothy Molter. The story of Dorothy Molter the "Boundary Waters Queen" told in ballad form, with photographs.
